HUF 100 million paid in January earthquake claims
Aegon Magyarország and Groupama Garancia Biztositó have paid policy holders more than HUF 100 million on claims for damage caused by a minor earthquake in the north of Hungary on January 19, the insurers have informed national news service MTI.
Policy holders got HUF 120,000 (approximately €390) to HUF 150,000 (€485) on average.
The earthquake measured 4.3 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was close to Cserhátsurány but could be felt in Budapest, some 60 kilometers away.
According to the Kövesligethy Radó Seismological Observatory, earthquakes of such a magnitude as that of the January 19 event occur in Hungary about once every 15 to 20 years on average.
