Foodpanda hikes commission fee

Retail

Following the acquisition of online Hungarian food delivery service NetPincer by German peer Foodpanda in December of last year, partner restaurants' commission fees are expected to more than double, online news portal hvg.hu reported yesterday.

The Hungarian partner restaurants that subscribe to the system say that Foodpanda’s commission, which went from 7% to 15%, is unsustainable. But abandoning Foodpanda is not necessarily a better option as many restaurants derive a large chunk of their revenues from orders placed through the platform.

Dániel Kováts, the proprietor of Foodpanda and a member of ruling Fidesz party, said that the price hike was necessary in order to offer better service to partners and customers and covers such costs as advertising packages and a soon-to-be-launched mobile app for placing orders, hvg.hu added.
