E-toll will take its toll on poultry demand, product council says

Initiatives

The electronic road toll, to be introduced in July, could make poultry 5% more expensive on average through the increase in shipping costs, the Poultry Product Council said on Thursday in a release to MTI. The price rises, working out to HUF 10 to 20 per kilograms, could cause social tension as they make cheaper products proportionally more expensive than upmarket products, the council said. The ministry of National Development told MTI on Wednesday that the effect of the e-toll on consumer inflation cannot be accurately measured, but data end foreign experience showed that the impact would not be significant.
