Dozens of companies ready to hire laid off Nokia workers
Dozens of companies are willing to recruit Nokia workers after the Hungarian plant closes, Hungarian daily Népszabadság reported today.
Microsoft, which recently acquired Nokia's handset business, announced about a month ago that it would shut down the plant in Hungary, laying off 1,829 workers. The plant located in the Hungarian city of Komárom, near the border with Slovakia, is scheduled to close on November 30.
More than fifty companies applied to participate at a job fair organized by the local trade union in the second week of September, union leader Zoltán Lászlo said in an interview to the newspaper.
Automotive and electronics firms have indicated their intention to hire hundreds of workers, he added.
