Banco Santander plans to acquire more businesses in Poland
Spanish lender Banco Santander’s Polish operation is gearing up to purchase more banking businesses in the country over the next two years, website Banking Business Review reported. The decision to further bolster its presence follows the acquisition of Bank Zachodni WBK for PLN 15.9 billion ($4.9 billion) and Belgium-based bank KBC Group in 2011 and 2012, respectively. “We want to grow and in the longer term become one of the top two banks in Poland,” Banco Santander chief executive Mateusz Morawiecki was quoted by the Wall Street Journal as saying. According to Morawiecki, it is expected that one or two transactions may be complete in the next 12-18 months.
