Audi to boost production in Hungary
German carmaker Audi is planning to start production of new engine models at its Hungarian Győr-located base, Axel Strotbek, Audi AG's board member for finance and organization, told Hungarian news agency MTI in an interview today.
“We will continue to make substantial investments in Győr in order to achieve our goals,” Strotbek told MTI, without going into detail on the special plans of the German carmaker.
Apparently Audi is satisfied with the Hungarian plant, as the German giant has carried out many upgrades recently and encouraged expansion of the nearby airport. The plant is soon introducing its third shift to increase production.
As for further expansion of the plant, Strotbek said that there is “no reason for this at the moment, but it is important that we are prepared for any challenges.” Preparing the ground for the hope of further investments, he said that supplying certain models from a single plant was the “right strategy” because of economies of scale.
