Apollo Tyres Hungary starts recruiting
Apollo Tyres of India announced yesterday the first recruitment drive for its soon to be built greenfield unit at Gyöngyöshalász (northern Hungary). Apollo Tyres Hungary told Hungarian news agency MTI it planned to appoint 100 technicians and fresh graduate engineers soon, with a second drive to recruit a further 150 people in the second half of this year.
Although production will only start at the beginning of 2017, the first batch of employees for the Hungarian factory will be contracted in July this year. Besides technicians and engineers, the company is also seeking applications for workers in administration and logistics.
The unit is expected to create 975 jobs by the start of operation. To support recruitment, the company will sign scholarship agreements with students of several educational institutes in Heves county (northern Hungary) next month, around the time the cornerstone of the plant is expected to be laid.
These students will receive support from Apollo in their last semester, managing director of Apollo Tyres Hungary, Kannan Prabhakar, said. Apollo Tyres employs 16,000 people worldwide and has manufacturing units in India, South-Africa and the Netherlands.
Its unit in Hungary will have a capacity to produce 5.5 million passenger car and light truck tires and 675,000 heavy commercial vehicle and bus tires annually, complementing production at Apollo Tyres' unit in the Netherlands. It will make Apollo and Vredestein brand tires for the European market, which includes Russia and Turkey.
Company and Hungarian government officials announced the planned construction of the HUF 146 bln plant last September. The government is awarding Apollo a cash investment subsidy of HUF 16 bln for the project. The subsidy has been cleared by the European Commission.
