The organizers of the world-renowned Sziget Festival, a week-long musical extravaganza on an island in the Danube, are expecting to work with a budget of HUF 4.4 bln this year, up from last year’s HUF 3.6 bln, Hungarian economic daily Világgazdaság reported today.

The organizers told the paper that they are expecting to raise the numbers of daily festival attendees from 85,000 to 90,000 in order to break last year’s record numbers of 415,000.

Chief organizer Károly Gerendai said passes were selling at a record speed, even before the full lineup had been announced. According to the paper, half of the increase in the budget would be spent on booking Robbie Williams as a headliner.

The organizers are planning to spend more on their Balaton sound festival, which had a budget of more than HUF 1 bln last year, and their VOLT festival which could get HUF 700-800 mln. The three festivals received a total of HUF 150 mln in state subsidies. No decision has been made yet on subsidies for this year's festivals.
