Expect Nagykörút traffic and transit delays

Trams 4 and 6

Due to construction of the Buda tram network and the repair of the Margit bridge, tram routes 4 and 6 between Aradi utca and Tátra utca on the Nagykörút (Grand Boulevard) have been shortened during daytime hours and replaced by bus service at night.

From March 22 until approximately mid-May, these tramlines will run between their South Buda terminuses to Oktogon metro. If you are planning to travel anywhere between Széll Kálmán tér and Király utca, some bus service will be available. Between midnight and 4 am, buses will operate along the entire route of tram 6.

In certain sections of the Nagykörút  and Margitkörút, replacement buses will use designated lanes, allowing them to travel at the same speed as the trams they are replacing. Some buses, however, will share the road with cars, causing heavy traffic in some areas. BKK recommends passengers take metro line M2 instead of tramlines 4 and 6 to circumvent the Nagykörút.

BKK recommends drivers take the Árpád or the Erzsébet bridge and avoid the Margit bridge during rush hour.

Buses 91 and 191

Buses traveling in the direction of Nyugati pályuadvar will not be running between Rómer Flóris utca and Tölgyfa utca on Margitkörút, and it has been recommended that passengers dismount at Margit híd (budai hídfő H stop) and board the replacement bus 4-6 at the temporary stop in front of Margitkörút 2. For those travelling in the opposite direction, (Királyhágó tér and Sarolta utca) the routes of these buses remain unchanged.

Other minor changes

Due to construction at the junction of Széna tér and Margitkörút, bus 116 will run on the route via Fény utcai piac to the Bécsi kapu tér stop. It will also stop at Csaba utca and at Széll Kálmán tér along with the buses 5, 91 and 102. The temporary stop at Mátray utca along bus route 116 has now been terminated, and the regular Mátray utca stop will resume service.

The 931 night bus will be redirected to Árpádföld stopping at hídfő H and the Nyugati tér 6 stop behind the taxi rank.

BKK also noted that “For the period of March 26–28 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), the terminus of buses 16 and 16A will be relocated to the Krisztina körút–Csaba utca section of Várfok utca. On these days, buses will reach their original routes after running via Várfok utca–Széll Kálmán téri forduló–Krisztina körút–Vérmező út–Várfok utca. Please note that travel time may increase by a few minutes.” Following reconstruction, buses 21 and 21A will once again stop at Várfok utca and follow their original beyond this point.
