The Budapest local council yesterday approved an agreement on conditions for the renovation of trains that run on the cityʼs number three underground line. A contract on the renovation with the Budapest Public Transport Company (BKV) is to be signed by July 1 of this year and the project will be completed by the end of 2017.

The city is taking out a euro loan worth the equivalent of HUF 60 bln for the project. Péter Takács, deputy chief of BKV, told the council that buying new trains for the line would cost at least HUF 90-92 bln. Between 520,000 and 540,000 passengers ride the old Soviet-made trains on the number three line on weekdays.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.
