Attila Mesterházy likely MSzP candidate for prime minister in 2010

Current Hungarian Socialist Party (MSzP) parliamentary-group leader Attila Mesterházy is likely to be selected as the MSzP's candidate for prime minister during Hungary's parliamentary elections, due in the spring of 2010, MTI has learned.

Mesterházy is ready accept the post of PM candidate, according to MTI's information, and Hungary's outgoing EU Tax and Customs Commissioner László Kovács will join MSzP's election campaign.

Mesterházy will retain his position as MSzP parliamentary-group leader.

The PM candidate will head the MSzP's national party list for the next parliamentary elections, MTI has learned. The party presidency is expected to finalize the election list after the October 30 parliamentary vote on the 2010 budget. The final decision lies with an MSzP congress to be held on December 12.
