Budapest Residents to Weigh in on Rákosrendező Development Project

Budapest residents will be invited to air their opinions on the planned development of the area around the Rákosrendező railway station in an online survey to start in April, Mayor Gergely Karácsony said, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
Karácsony said people over the age of 14 with a resident card would be invited to vote on the project over the period of a month.
Hungary and the United Arab Emirates signed an economic cooperation agreement paving the way for the EUR 5bn project on Wednesday. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said the project by UAE developer Eagle Hills would transform the area into a "new quarter" of the city with tourism, economic, business, and sport functions.
Karácsony said the planned investment "put the interests of investors ahead of those of the public".
He added that more than 136,000 of the city's residents had weighed in on the matter of traffic restrictions on the landmark Chain Bridge in an earlier survey.
