V4 presses to make nuclear power 'sustainable' in EU taxonomy
János Süli, Hungary's minister in charge of the upgrade of the Paks nuclear power plant, on Thursday signed a declaration with representatives of the governments of the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia urging the European Commission to classify nuclear power as a sustainable energy source, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
The declaration signed in Paks states that strengthening energy sovereignty and energy security, maintaining affordable energy prices and decarbonizing energy production is only possible by using nuclear energy along with renewable energy resources.
The Visegrád Group countries are committed to the use of nuclear energy to achieve the EU's carbon neutrality goals, the government of Hungary said on its official website.
