Domestic sales of the local unit of Italian building materials maker Mapei edged down 3.4% to HUF 16 billion in the first half from the same period a year earlier, Mapei managing director Béla Markovich said on Tuesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The decline in sales was nearly halved in the second quarter compared to Q1, Markovich said. Mapei doesn't expect the construction sector to "improve significantly" this year, although changes to the government's home subsidy scheme in force from the start of next year could result in a "moderate pickup", he added.

He said the company was sticking to its growth target.

Earlier, Mapei said it targeted sales growth of more than 6% in 2023.

Mapei had net sales revenue of HUF 34.2 bln last year, public records show.
