Czech Republic Retail Sales Contract in September

Retail trade in the Czech Republic fell by 4% year-on-year in September, slipping further from a 2.8% decline in the previous month, the Prague-based Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) said in a statement on Tuesday.

This was the seventeenth consecutive month of contraction in retail activity.

Sales continued to decrease for both non-food products (-5.9% vs -4.3% in August) and food, beverages & tobacco (-4.1% vs -3.5%). Meanwhile, sales slowed remarkably for automotive fuel (4.5% vs 5.4%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales slumped 0.4% in September, following a 0.8% drop in August.
