Hungarian pharmaceutical company Gedeon Richter said it expected to pay about HUF 8 bln in windfall profit tax in 2024 in an announcement posted on the website of the Budapest Stock Exchange on Friday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Richter made the announcement after a decree requiring pharmaceutical companies to pay both a windfall profit tax and a sectoral tax in 2024 was published in the official gazette Magyar Közlöny late Thursday.

Richter acknowledged the decree and said tax base modifications allowed it to account for the windfall profit tax towards the global minimum tax.

Richter shares traded at HUF 9,410 at 10:00 in the morning on Friday, down 0.95%.
