Petőfi Literary Fund offers grants to foreign publishers

Hungary's Petőfi Literary Fund (PLF) has called two tenders for a combined HUF 35 million in grant money to support the translation and publication of Hungarian literature, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
The PLF is offering HUF 10 mln of grant money, up to HUF 1 mln per publisher, for the release of "a richly illustrated book", such as a children's book, art album, or cookbook, or a book of fiction or essays from any genre.
The fund is also inviting applications for HUF 25 mln in grants, up to HUF 1.5 mln per publisher, for the translation of a work written in Hungarian, either contemporary or classical from any genre, or a work of scholarly prose in a field of the humanities.
The tenders are open to publishers headquartered outside of Hungary. The deadline for applying is September 30.
The PLF is in charge of coordinating the Hungarian presence at international book fairs, it provides support for translators and publishing houses outside of Hungary, it helps people prominent on the Hungarian book market gain exposure outside the country, and it cultivates interest in Hungarian literature around the world with its own publications and media.
